In this article theosophy is viewed from three perspectives: (i) its founding and essential doctrines; (ii) the question of its relation to Western culture; (iii) the continuation of theosophical ideas - on both the organized and spontaneous levels. While these characteristics came to the fore during the first half of our century, they link theosophy to the resurgence of the New Age Movement. In conclusion it is slated that the New Age Movement is, despite some new slogans, symbols and accents, essentially a revitalization of theosophy.
