In this article the aim is to investigate the applicability of the strategy used by the author of the letter to the Colossians. The contemporary socio-historic and philosophic context of the New Age Movements is used as a test-case. Various striking similarities between the New Age Movement and a heresy are consequently revealed - a heresy against which the author warns the Colossians in Col. 2:8. Cosmological, anthropological and theological similarities are pointed out. The possible message of Colossians in a first-century context and in the context of the present-day New Age Movement is revealed.
