Abstract

This article offers an investigation of the relation of human confession to divine revelation in the book Isaiah. Aspects like the character and place of confession, the content of God's revelation and of Israel’s confession, the grounds, driving force, the function and aim of Israel’s confession are discussed. The findings are that God’s initiative in his action and in his word is dominant: confession has a modest, subordinate place in relation to divine revelation. Confession is concerned with what God does and says and is a confirmation of it and not a new, independent consideration.
