Abstract

Expository preaching – a re-evaluation

This article focuses on a re-evaluation of expository preaching, especially in view of the contributions of Craddock and Buttrick, who introduced a new era in homiletical research. A re-evaluation of the exegetical and homiletical methods utilised in expository preaching is also undertaken. Certain recommendations are made, for example to broaden the basis of the exegetical method for expository preaching and also to implement a model in which the processes of exegesis, hermeneusis and homilesis each play its full part in composing expository sermons.
